Introduction to Filters

General Description

One of the most powerful feature of SWIFTVis is Filters; filters allow you to augment, select, shift, and change data from a source before feeding it into a Sink (or Plot). The most common filters used are Selection and Movie Filter, though each individual filter serves a specific purpose.

Types of Filters

There are two main types of filters: filters that remove data from input before passing it as output (usually to limit the number of rows of data fed into a plot) and filters that change the data in some way (for example, function filters can act on data). As with everything else in SwiftVis, the easiest thing to do is start testing out different filters and get a solid feel for their individual roles. However, the tutorial in the next section was written to help you get a basic understanding of a few commonly-used filters.
